Ugh, don't forget to set the clocks forward an hour this sunday early morning. That's one thing I don't really need is to lose an hour of sleep. I know that Daylight Saving Time (it really is saving and not savings) was instituted to give people an extra hour of daylight and to help cut down on energy costs, but I think the idea is outdated now. Schedules are so different and people do so many different things now that I think we should stop it. Even though the only major industrialized country not to have introduced daylight saving is Japan, I think we should follow their lead. I like it when it gets darker a little bit earlier and the sun isn't blaring through the windows and keeping it all warm. I think it's time that people look back at the reasons why it was started and realize that the final time it was adopted (after many trials over the years) was back in Nixon's reign and it's time to change.
I don't know that I agree with you Ladee, first of all, our home is dark enough year round where just by shutting the drapes, you wouldn't even know if there is extra time in the sun or not, and sometimes I like to be able to sleep in a little while longer knowing the sun won't be up so bright when we go out for our walk. This way we also get more time to play in the park in the daylight if our daddies walk us down there. I've heard it saaves alot of energy which means our daddies could afford more toys for you Ladee so you should probably stop your rambling and just realize that it's been around in one form or another, off and on, since Ben Franklin first came up with the idea and it's here to stay. Thank you Rick for helping Dylan from "Jersey City, NJ" submit his "rebarks".
Ladee, you know I don't like to disagree with you, BUT....I LOVE longer days. More time to play....our daddies take us out for longer walks at night, we sometimes get to taste ICECREAM!!! Woofer, I guess you and I get to go to the park and Ladee will stay home because it will be too light for her! How exactly does it save on electricity, though? I never understood that.
Studies done by the U.S. Department of Transportation show that Daylight Saving Time trims the entire country's electricity usage by a significant, but small amount, of less than one percent each day with Daylight Saving Time. We save energy in both the evening and the morning because we use less electricity for lighting and appliances. Similarly, In New Zealand, power companies have found that power usage decreases 3.5% when daylight saving starts. In the first week, peak evening consumption commonly drops around 5%. Energy use and the demand for electricity for lighting our homes is directly connected to when we go to bed and when we get up. Bedtime for most of us is late evening through the year. When we go to bed, we turn off the lights and TV. In the average home, 25 percent of all the electricity we use is for lighting and small appliances, such as TVs, VCRs and stereos. A good percentage of energy consumed by lighting and appliances occurs in the evening when families are home. By moving the clock ahead one hour, we can cut the amount of electricity we consume each day. Daylight Saving Time also saves a small amount of energy in the morning when we rise. Studies show that 70 percent of all Americans rise prior to 7 a.m. during the workweek. During the summer months, sunrise is very early in the morning, so most people will wake after the sun rises. Because the sun is up, we will turn on fewer lights in our homes. Thus, we actually use less energy in the morning. In the winter, the afternoon Daylight Saving Time advantage is offset by the morning's need for more lighting. In spring and fall, the advantage is less than one hour. So, Daylight Saving Time saves energy for lighting in all seasons of the year except for the four darkest months of winter (November, December, January and February) when the afternoon advantage is offset by the need for lighting because of late sunrise. Daylight Saving Time "makes" the sun "set" one hour later and therefore reduces the period between sunset and bedtime by one hour. This means that less electricity would be used for lighting and appliances late in the day. We also use less electricity because we are home fewer hours during the "longer" days of spring and summer. Most people plan outdoor activities in the extra daylight hours. When we are not at home, we don't turn on the appliances and lights.
Oh.
Thank you Ann & Jim from "Cranford, NJ" for helping "Cleo" submit a reply.
Ladee sure has a lot of information on Daylite Savings time. I agree with Dylan I too love the extra light plus I remember that when there is more light it also means warmer weather. I dont have to wear those silly coats that my mommy makes me wear, whenever I go outside. I also get to go to the my nana's house and go to the beach or swim in her pool. Right now I am adjusting to my new baby brother (he is not the furry type). I have not been jealous at all but I have not been getting as much attention- so please visit me soon!!!!! With regard to Daylite Savings Time, my mommy and daddy may not be happy to hear that they will be losing an hour of sleep at night. They will have to go to bed earlier because my brother gets up at odd hours of the night- I find this somewhat confusing. Does anyone have any advice for me? .
Cleo, I haven't had a lot of experience with Human babies, but I do know this -if you can hold out a little while, and be really good, when your brother gets to be a little bigger, you're going to have a WHOLE lot of fun with him. KIds are a BLAST! They ALWAYS want to play and run around! Can you believe it? It's our dream come true! What you need to do now, is be really good, help out by protecting him and watching out for him, love him because he's part of your human family now -- and before long, you'll have the best friend you could possibly want! Thank you Paddy from "SpingLake, NJ" submit a reply about "Cleo".
