This week we both agreed on our column so we are writing together and a special midweek update at that!
A year ago, we can remember that it was such a pretty day out and then our daddies went running out and went upstairs to our neighbor’s balcony. When they came back, they were very sad and in shock. We tried to console them but when we saw what was happening on TV and what they actually saw and photographed, we got really depressed as well. The next time we took our walk that afternoon, it was all smoky and hard to breathe and the view had changed forever. It stayed smoky for a long time. We used to love going on our walks and seeing those majestic towers across the river. But that was changed last year. Now we try to go on our walks and play like we always did, but it’s still really hard to look over there and see the sky so empty. Our daddies and all their friends seem to still talk about it a lot. It sure affected everyone here, and a lot of people lost friends and loved ones. I’m not sure if other families in other parts of the country and the world still talk about it and think about it as much as our families do, but we hope they will always remember the loss that some bad people caused all of us last year. Here we are a year later…And that’s a long time in doggy years! Now it’s on the news everyday again and there are a lot of memorials to remember everyone who died that day, and all of the confusion and horror that it caused everyone. We just want to express our sorrow again not only for our families, but for the world and we hope we can all start getting along better soon so that nothing bad like that or something even worse will happen. We also want to say thank you to all the people that have helped everyone so much here. Noone could get through this alone and it was very important for all the support that everyone gave each other, and that makes us wag our tails again!

Thank you Rick for helping Dylan from "Jersey City, NJ" submit a beautifully written response.

Dylan's Comment:
Ladee and Woofer -- I was really, really young on that day so I don't really remember much about it. But, I sure have heard a lot about it listening to people talk and feeling their emotions. Humans forget that the animals that love them understand when they are upset, or sad, or hurt. I bet, Ladee and Woofer, that you felt that too, and that your daddies were glad that you were there with them. I can't understand what happened, and I don't think my daddies understand it either. But I want to remember everyone who was touched by that day and I want to remember all the pets that helped on that day and the days after. The ones that were rescuing people and the ones that just sat on laps, or curled up in bed with their mommies and daddies.

Thank you Brandy & Kody from "Lecompton , KS" for your wonderful response.

Dear Ladee, Woofer & Tweeter, oops, I mean, Dylan, I live far away in the Land of Oz and I promise that no one out here has forgotten what happened back east last year. My Mom's human daughter, Joel, lives in Queens. She called home that morning as she was leaving to go to work just minutes after the first attack. She was frightened and didn't know what to do. So was Mom. They both knew something bad was happening, but didn't realize how bad. They told each other "I love you" and Joel promised to call when she arrived at work. Just after they hung up, the second attack occurred. Mom sobbed like I have never seen her cry before. She was so scared. She knew then our world would never be the same. It seemed an eternity before she finally heard from Joel. She cried again. Then our worries focused on Neil, Joel's fiance, he is a New York policeman. Fortunately for us, just a few days before, he had been transferred into the aviation unit. Mom's phone rang all! day long friends and family concerned about Joel & Neil. Also, my dad is a firefighter so we had a good idea that all of those firefighters in NY were in grave danger. I am sure that people all across our nation feel as deeply as we do about the pain that New York City has suffered. Please know that you were all in our prayers.

Just in case you were wondering, I am a rather attractive miniature, longhaired dachshund and Kody is a 110 lb. Golden Retriever, the back-up dog on the farm. Maybe Mom will send a picture of us to Joel and she can deliver it to your friend Rick. This has been fun seeing your pictures and visiting your city through your website. Keep up the good work and keep your daddies smiling! Very Sincerely from the Midwest, Brandy

Hi Brandy and Kody!! Thanks for writing. We love new pen pals. Did you say the Land of Oz?? A long time ago, I had a friend who visited there. He was short and white like me so we bonded. He said he had some good times there. He said before he got there, it was kinda gray outside, but then when he got there everything was bright and colorful. Is it real colorful where you live? He also told me about this one #$%&* (I'm not allowed to say it, but it rhymes with Witch) that hated this really nice girl who looked like a princess....I guess that means she looked like my girlfriend Ladee. Do you run into them at all? Thanks for writing!
